This lovely airy cottage, built in sandstone, is on the other side of a rocky ridge from De Hoop. Completely private, with a poplar grove and old pear trees in front of it, restios all around framing the landscape and a view towards the canyon. Gert Boom has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, both with showers only, one of which is part of the bedroom with the double bed. The other bedroom is twin bedded and there are two more beds in the living room for families. The indoor fireplace provides warmth for cozy evenings curled up on the big sofa or in a lounge chair. The kitchen area is fully equipped to be self catering if you do not want to book meals (two or three course dinners can be delivered to you). As with De Hoop and Rondekraal, Gert Boom has solar lighting, but feel free to use the oil lamps to enhance the romantic atmosphere. Gas is used to provide hot water, and for the stove. Relax and recharge in this charming cottage. Lie in the hammock in summer, swim in the pool (built to resemble a farm dam), or in the rock pool at the canyon or go for long walks. A picnic at the canyon to watch sundown, is particularly recommended.

De Hoop (x1)
Part of the original homestead on Papkuilsfontein, the thatch roofed sandstone cottage of De Hoop, was the first cottage to be restored (1987). Set two kilometres from the main farmhouse, it is surrounded by sandstone ruins, which add a certain charm to this setting. De Hoop is a historical longhouse with a spacious living room with hearth (fireplace where you can also braai) and two comfortable lounge chairs on one end. A couch is placed under a window for sunny winter days with a good book. The kitchen area is fully equipped for self catering, although guests often prefer to order a three course dinner, which is delivered to your cottage. The furnishings were carefully selected to be in harmony with the historic ambience of the cottage and in keeping with the original layout of the longhouse; the living room leads into a bedroom with double bed, which flows into a bathroom with Victorian bath. Step outside the bathroom and you'll find yourself in a delightful outdoor shower. To cater for a family, there are two extra beds in one end of the living room. The hot water cylinder, stove and fridge all operate on gas, while romantic oil lamps and candles supplement the gas lamps.

Rondekraal (x1)
Die Rondekraal is a lovely romantic cottage for a couple only. Built with sandstone and a thatched roof, it is furnished in a manner that maintains its' historical charm. There is a huge round 'kraal' in front of the cottage, where an earlier Van Wyk used to exercise his horses, which he was passionate about. All doors are stable doors with the upper part in glass to allow you to see the landscape beyond. The huge glass doors in front, opening into the round kraal, invite the warm winter sun in, while in summer there are blinds that screen the sun, while still allowing you to see out. The open plan design of Rondekraal finds a cosy fireplace and two rocking chairs on one end, a fully equipped kitchen area in between, and a double bed with percale cotton bed linen, on the far side. The bedroom leads into the bathroom, complete with a Victorian bath. And if you step outside of the bathroom you'll find yourself in a semi-enclosed outdoor shower from where you can survey the landscape as you take a hot shower. Chairs and a table in the 'kraal' under a huge taaibos invite you to use the braai facilities and around the corner, outside of the 'kraal', another table has been placed in the shade, with views towards the canyon. On the eastern side there is a table perfect for breakfast or morning tea in the sun. In flower season you'll find yourself surrounded by a sea of yellow bulbinella, ursinia and white arctotis, set against the backdrop of sandstone ruins. Rondekraal operates on gas fired hot water, fridge and stove top, and gas lamps supplement romantic oil lamps and candles, should you need them. As with the other cottages, Rondekraal is equipped to be self catering, although many guests enjoy having delicious, two or three course dinners delivered to their cottage.
